About Mr

Let's get to know each other.  I started teaching at Smyrna High School in 1996 after spending almost twenty years in the industry I love.  I had the pleasure of starting the program at Smyrna High School and have seen it change and grow over the years.  I am a product of Rutherford County Schools, being a graduate of Riverdale High, but Smyrna High is my home of choice.  I still stay as active in this Industry as time will allow so I can keep my skills up to date.  All aspects of my program are enjoyable to teach, but I have to admit that photography is still my passion.
A little something about this program area and the way our class operates.  Digital Arts is a very diverse program area and usually has something to offer most students.  We will do hand drawing and computer artwork, so you need to be willing to develop your skills in both disciplines.  In the area of graphic design the limits are boundless, encompassing anything from basic logo design up to complex interactive children books and product package design.  We will also explore photography, photo manipulation and various types of animation, so as you can see, we will spend a great deal of time working with technology.  The class is very "Hands On" and "Project Based", and if are not sure what I mean, "it means we are constantly taking those theories and applying them to real stuff".  Be prepared for a class that will allow you to push your limits and see immediate results, and sometimes we will push you even further than you think you can go.  "Always remember I will never set you up for failure, but I expect you to grow in your skill level."
All student assignments will be posted in Microsoft Teams and that is where they will turn in the vast majority of them. In Teams parents can see the assignments, when the student work is turned in as well as the grade issued with any teacher comments if any are applied. I encourage all parents to view the work their student is doing and offer words of encouragement as they learn and develop these new skills.
*Parents, please check your students grades regularly in "Skyward", and feel free to contact me with any questions.
