Rutherford County Work Ethic Distinction
The purpose of the Work Ethic Distinction is to address the needs that industry has for employees who have both technical and employability/soft skills. The Work Ethic Distinction is a proactive solution to the challenge employers have in hiring individuals who are prepared for the world of work. Students who obtain this distinction are proving that they are both college and career ready. To receive the Work Ethic Distinction a student must earn a minimum of 20 points out of a possible 40 points on the industry developed employability standards and a regular high school diploma. Earning a Work Ethic Distinction and meeting job-related requirements will guarantee an interview with participating Rutherford County employers. Get the form and current list of employers below. Seniors turn in completed applications during spring of their senior year.

Tennessee Scholars has a clear and focused mission: to increase the percentage of Tennessee high school graduates prepared for post-secondary education, the workforce, or the military. It is a rewards and incentives program for students who graduate high school with the required courses and additional expectations of attendance, discipline, and volunteer service.
How do you become a Tennessee Scholar?
- Apply by completing the application and checklist for Tennessee Scholars. Once you and your parents sign it, return it to your school counselor.
- Seniors must complete the student checklist and application to turn in to their counselor durnig spring of their senior year.
- Once seniors have turned in their applications, counselors will arrange a time for qualifying students to complete an online survey.
Senior Hiring Event
Rutherford Works, the economic development arm of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Rutherford County Schools and the Department of Labor, will host a hiring event on April 2, 2019 at Blackman High School for participating Rutherford County School seniors.
Employers will be able to market summer, part-time, and full-time positions to more than 400 graduating high school seniors. Interview rooms will be available for immediate hiring.
