Welcome to 10th grade English!

English II is a survey of world literature from ancient times through the present. We will explore a variety of diverse authors by examining works of short and long fiction, drama, poetry, creative nonfiction, and informational texts whose content and historical significance have helped to shape the contemporary world literature cannon.

If you have any concerns, please contact me. I am available for conferences on Wednesday after school. Please call the front office to schedule a conference.

All of the policies and procedures I use are intended to improve your learning environment and align with school and county-wide policies. The most common infractions include tardies, dress code, and cell phone use. Please inform yourself of these policies and their consequences, which are outlined in your student handbook. • Blue or black ink pens

In addition to the required supplies, bring one of the following to donate to the class:

  • Kleenex
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Clorox wipes

  • Highlighters (used often)
  • If you have any trouble obtaining these supplies, please contact me as soon as possible.
  •

Honor code:

While I understand the pressure to make a certain grade, I will not tolerate any kind of academic misconduct. If you are suspected of cheating, you will forfeit the opportunity to finish the quiz or test. Therefore, be very careful where your eyes are focused and give no cause for suspicion. Independent work should be completed independently. If any student is found with the same answer to an open-ended question as another student, both students will receive a zero until an alternate assignment is completed.

Silent sustained reading

We will be conducting silent reading every day in class this year. You are required to bring a book each day. What you choose to read is up to you. Please note that I have many books in my classroom, but I have not read every one of them, similarly there are many books in our library that I have not read. You need to be aware of what book you choose to read and make sure your parents approve of the content of said book. Not all books are enjoyable for all people so make the best choices for you. Please ask the librarians or myself if you have questions about your book choice.

Teacher guarantee:

I will listen to you. I have an open-door policy. You can talk to me before class, after class, or via email, whichever works best for you. I will notice you. When you come in this room your voice and presence is important. I will work with you. If you need extra help, I am happy to pull you for RTI, just ask. I am glad you are in my class, and I look forward to building a community together this year.
