"The Strings Attached," the feature film created by Smyrna High School students during the 2023-2024 school year, is available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video.

The movie follows the story of troubled teenager Ryan, who begins to see his own fears come to life, when an unexpected friend helps him get out of his own head and back into the real world. “The Strings Attached” was directed by students Alan Mata and Val Holbrook and starring Gavin Averhoff, Ciara Robinson, and an ensemble cast of student performers.

"The Strings Attached earned honors for Best Director, Best Cinematographer and Best Actor/Actress at the 2024 Rutherford County Student Media Awards.

"I am so proud of these students and what they accomplished with this film," teacher/producer Kyle Dietz said. "What these students created will live on far beyond their time at Smyrna High School and hopefully inspire the next generation of student filmmakers.”

Smyrna High will receive half of the sales, Dietz said. The cost is $2.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy.

The movie premiered at Smyrna’s Malco Theater in April and was picked up by MTSU’s True Blue TV over the summer. Concept development and pre-production will begin on the school’s next feature film when classes resume in August.

Watch “Weaving the Strings,” a student-produced documentary about the creative process behind the movie.
