today's lesson is focused on relations the big question is how can I find the domain and range of a relation after today's lesson I can tell what a relation yes I can find the domain of a relation and I can find the range of a relation so what does the relation look like a set of ordered pairs a mapping diagram a relation can even be a story and a graph by definition a relation is a mapping between input values called The Domain and the output values here's our example a set of ordered pairs you can see the points of 1, 2 4, 5 4, negative 5 2, 0 as you know those ordered pairs represent points on the coordinate plane and we call them coordinate pairs on this side we have highlighted the input values the X values in red and we ride the wind you can see that our domain includes 1/4 and 2 and our range includes 255 + 0 the mapping diagram shows in the domain we have RX the range the x value of one is only linked to do the input value appositive an anarchy NDM football 0 as an output in this example of a relation is shown a table of values you will see in the table that the X values are on the left and in the table of values the range the Y values are on the right compare it with the mapping diagram notice that are input values are 2 4 6 and 8 those numbers are output values are 792 and 20 those numbers represent our range check the mapping of the info 2 with seven what's 20 is going to be an important part of a blessing that's coming up on functions 7 in 4 is paired only with nine 6 is only with nine and eight is feared only with two what you will learn in the next one of the next weapons is that when we have more than one output for the same it will not be a function but that's another lesson part one of our discussion about relations now it's time for you to show what you know you go back and complete questions one through five you can watch this video again or look at your notes when you answer the questions be sure to email me remember my email is Sears at rcschool.net looking forward to hearing from you soon goodbye
