Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirements:

Total Credits Required: 23 credits

 

  • English: 4 credits- English I, English II, English III, and English IV
  • Math: 4 credits- Integrated I, II, III and a fourth higher-level math course
  • Science: 3 credits - Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and a third lab science
  • Social Studies: 3 credits- World History & Geography, US History, Government and Economics
  • Personal Finance: .5 credit
  • Physical Education and Wellness: 1.5 credits- Wellness (1 credit) and PE II (.5 credit)
  • Fine Arts: 1 credit - Art I, Band, Chorus, General Music or Theatre I
  • World Language: 2 credits -  2 credits in the same language
  • Elective Focus: 3 credits 
  • Additional Elective: 1 credit

**In addition to the 23 credits required for graduation, students must also take the ACT and Civics test.

Graduating with Honors

Students who graduate with honors must score at or above ALL of the subject area readiness benchmarks on the ACT or equivalent score on the SAT. 

  • English: 18
  • Math: 22
  • Reading: 22
  • Science: 23
Graduating with Distinction

Students must have a 3.0 GPA and meet one of the following criteria:

  • earn a nationally recognized industry certification
  • participate in Governor's School
  • participate in All State
  • National Merit Semifinalist or Finalist
  • 31 or higher on ACT
  • 3 or higher on 2 AP exams
  • IB Diploma Program completer
  • 12 or more college credit hours
Valedictorian/Salutatorian Information
The Valedictorian/Salutatorian shall be the student(s)  who:
  • attain(s) the highest grade point average for grades 9-12
  • have taken a minimum of twelve (12) honors or above honors level courses
  • meet all requirements for graduating with distinction pursuant to the Tennessee Board of Education's criteria
In the event multiple students meet the aforementioned criteria, the highest achieved ACT Composite, NOT SUPERSORE, will serve as the final determiniation criteria.
