What is it about?

This course is designed to begin your adult life with an opinion. Everyone has one, come and share it and you will do well in the class. This class is one of those that you can get a lot from it, or very little. Your attitude in the class will determine the quality of education you receive from the instruction. My first and most important rule is that you respect others and their opinions. You are free to differ, but disrespect of others will not be tolerated

What will we do? The course centers on classroom discussions. You will get a chance to hear what your peers think, along with getting a chance to voice your own opinion. Several other outside sources will be use. Most of the major network news stations will be surveyed, along with the major sources of scholarly thought prevalent on the educational institutions in the United States.

You will be evaluated with the use of a persuasive essay. This is why the goal is to get you to have an opinion of each topic. The course tends to be a bit fluid, taking on topics as they come up in American Society and the world. In general, we will cover:

• Violence: in Society and Schools
• 1st Amendment issues
• 2nd Amendment issues
• Death Penalty
• Abortion
• Drugs
• LGBT Issues
• Bullying

We will also be constructing video projects. Click on the link below for an example. It is a project in which you will finally learn, and teach the class, something.
